Karriärhistorik på Hilti
Before Hilti, I worked at Georgia Department of Transportation in the Bridge Design office. The first time I heard of Hilti was when I was in training. The construction project I visited had a bridge expansion scope. A Hilti rep came out to the job site to demo installing rebar with Hilti epoxy.
When I was ready for growth in my career, I noticed Hilti had an engineering position available. I didn’t get the position I sought out because management during the interview saw that I would be the best fit in the PMO, and I am grateful for their vision. I loved taking on the challenge of learning something different. I went from designing large concrete I-beams on a bridge to having to design tube steel and ½” bolts. I also found out I love helping others and Hilti put me in the position to carry that out by giving me opportunities to speak and get to know customers versus just designing plans that came across my desk.
I believe that Hilti’s culture sets them apart from most other companies, mostly because they are family-owned. It also helps that Hilti allows their employees to work globally if they choose. The fact that there is so much cultural diversity within the organization gives people numerous opportunities to get out of their comfort zone of the normal to interact and learn from different races and cultures.
Karriärhistorik på Hilti
I thought it would be nerve-wracking to join a company as a graduate. First job, fresh faced, don’t know a thing. But Hilti doesn’t make you feel that way at all.
In fact, our managing director got all the graduates together and spent time really talking to us personally. I don’t think you’d find that in many companies, the management directors sitting down with the newbies like that.
I spent my first year as an account manager, learning the basics of the business. It was always my goal to be an engineer, but I knew that a year in sales would give me the knowledge and understanding that’s so helpful for everything else. I then became a project engineer, which was more related to my degree, and last year I was promoted to global engineer. This is working with bigger global consultants in the area, so a big step up in responsibility. It amounts to three roles in three years, which is pretty good going.
